The NED Show

Last week The NED Show visited our school.  This was a really fun assembly with a great message.  One of our lucky classmates was chosen to participate and she received 3 yo-yos and a carrying case along with this really neat balloon hat.

Here is information from their website about their show

Our program centers around a 45-minute character education assembly called The NED Show. This school-wide performance tells the story of NED, a lovable cartoon character whose name is an acronym for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. It’s a simple, memorable message designed to teach valuable lessons that help kids become champions at school and in life.

Building off the excitement surrounding NED, the schools we visit are able to improve student behavior, strengthen test scores and create a school culture where every child believes that they are a champion.

Monster Measuring

Students are having fun with monster measuring.  They have to draw monsters to match the measurement on the card.  Their monsters are adorable! It looks like we still need to label them.

Sneak Peek at Some Fun Station Activities

During intervention time when groups have finished their work, they can choose an activity to complete.  These activities reinforce skills we've worked on in class.

This is one that they have used.

Word Splashes

This week I will be introducing Word Splashes to one reading group.  The whole class will get to do them, but we are starting with small groups first.

Word Splashes are used as a prereading activity to introduce vocabulary and to make predictions about the story.

A few other charts that we'll be using this week are:
  • KWLS Chart (Know, Wonder, Learned and Search)
  • On Target Questions Chart (Writing questions)
  • Fact and Opinion T-chart
Here are the 2 Word Splashes we will be using this week.  Can you guess the topics?

Conference Forms

Conference forms were sent home today on hot pink paper.  I will be scheduling them in the order that I receive them.  Please let me know if you are trying to schedule more than one conference.

Grade cards will be sent home on Friday.  Students can earn 50 Star bucks by returning the signed envelope on Monday.  They earn 25 if it is returned on Tuesday.

Thank You!

I'd like to thank everyone for helping make our Autumn Poetry Cafe a huge
success!  I'm so proud of our class!  They did a fantastic job at reading their poems in front of a lot of people.  Some of the color poems had some challenging words and our practice and hard work paid off!

Why is Water Important?

We made another fun flip book about water.  We have some amazing artists in our class!

Communities Big and Small

We've  been studying how communities are different. We made flip books to show urban, suburban and rural communities. They turned out great! Look at the details!

Bar Graphs

We've been busy graphing!

Students need to be able to:
  •  make a bar graph from a blank sheet of paper
  •  fill in a graph like we did in class
  • write statements about a graph (3rd grade statements that require adding/subtracting)
  • identify true or false statements about a graph
